Dojo Banking: Teaching Kids Smart Money Habits Through Play

Sheryl Tamayose

Empowering the Next Generation with Smart Money Habits

Financial literacy is a skill that should start early, and I saw an exciting opportunity to enhance ClassDojo with a fun, interactive Dojo Banking & Investing feature. By seamlessly integrating savings, spending, investing, and donating into the existing app, I designed an engaging system that teaches kids real-world financial skills in a way that feels like a game. To drive excitement and adoption, I crafted a marketing rollout, including a product mockup, an in-class debit card, an Instagram carousel post, an email announcement, and data-driven storytelling through engaging visualizations. This project blends design thinking, marketing strategy, and user engagement to inspire young students to develop a healthy relationship with money.

Teaching kids the power of smart money decisions!

The Dojo Banking Dashboard transforms saving, spending, donating, and investing into an engaging, kid-friendly experience. Each feature is designed to encourage financial responsibility while making learning fun. From setting savings goals to growing investments over time, students can track their progress and make smart financial choices—all within the ClassDojo ecosystem.
The Dojo Banking Dashboard is the central hub where students can save, spend, donate, and invest their Dojo Dollars—all while learning essential money skills. With a simple, kid-friendly interface, students can track their savings goals, contribute to class funds, and make smart financial decisions in a fun, interactive way.

A Real-World Way to Use Dojo Dollars!

To make Dojo Banking even more immersive, I designed an in-class debit card system that allows students to redeem their Dojo Dollars for rewards in a hands-on way. This feature helps bridge the gap between digital money management and real-world spending decisions, reinforcing lessons about earning, saving, and responsible spending.

Skyrocket Your Savings! Social Campaign

To generate excitement, I created a dynamic Instagram carousel that educates and engages parents and teachers about the new Dojo Banking feature. Using a space-themed design and playful copy, the campaign highlights how kids can build smart money habits while having fun. Each slide tells a story—how students can earn, save, and invest their Dojo Dollars in a way that feels empowering.

Bringing Financial Literacy to Every Class!

A well-crafted email launch campaign ensures parents and educators are aware of the new feature and its impact on students. The email design balances clear messaging with excitement, introducing Dojo Banking as a tool to help kids learn the fundamentals of financial literacy through play. The CTA encourages immediate engagement, driving users to explore the new feature in the app.

Why This Data is Important:

Shows feature adoption & engagement – Helps ClassDojo understand how many students actively save, invest, and spend their Dojo Dollars.
Guides future feature updates – If fewer students are investing or donating, ClassDojo can introduce better incentives or educational prompts to encourage balanced financial behavior.
Helps teachers & parents reinforce lessons – Educators can use this data to discuss real-world money habits in class and at home.

Why This Data is Important:

Helps ClassDojo refine its social media strategy – Understanding whether Carousels, Reels, or Stories perform best allows them to focus on the most effective formats to reach parents and educators.
Optimizes future marketing campaigns – If Carousels drive the most engagement, ClassDojo can lean into more swipeable, story-driven posts to explain new features.
Improves communication & feature adoption – By using the most engaging content type, ClassDojo can increase awareness and drive more interaction with the new banking feature.

Why This Data is Important:

Reveals saving behaviors & patience levels – Knowing that most students spend within 1-3 weeks can help ClassDojo introduce long-term savings incentives.
Supports curriculum development – Educators can use this insight to teach students about delayed gratification and the benefits of compound savings.
Helps ClassDojo refine financial literacy tools – If kids struggle to save, the app can add visual savings goals, interest-earning incentives, or streak rewards to keep them engaged.
