Editorial redesign for Jackson Laboratory's Search Magazine centennial issue, celebrating 100 years of the Summer Student Program. The challenge: making complex genetic research accessible to diverse audiences—scientists, donors, policy makers—without compromising technical accuracy or the publication's established credibility. The design updates typography, layout structure, and information hierarchy while respecting the publication's legacy, ensuring scientific content remains clear and engaging across reader expertise levels.

The Opportunity

The centennial issue required a visual system that honored the publication's scientific credibility while introducing contemporary energy. Geometric composition, bold color, and dynamic layouts distinguish complex research content without compromising readability or institutional authority.

What We Made Happen

Type hierarchy distinguishes primary narrative from technical detail and contextual information, allowing readers to engage at appropriate depth for their expertise level. Diagrams and data visualizations function as navigational tools rather than decorative elements, helping readers grasp core concepts before encountering detailed text.
