Project Overview:
The AI Writing Summary Platform was designed to help students and researchers simplify complex assignments, improve their writing, and manage citations all in one place. The goal was to reduce the friction in academic writing by combining AI summarization, grammar/style checking, and citation management into a lean, easy-to-use web application.
Problem
Students often face three major challenges when working on assignments:
Struggling to understand and simplify lengthy or complex texts.
Spending too much time on grammar, formatting, and citations.
Switching between multiple tools (summarizers, citation managers, text editors).
This results in wasted time, reduced focus, and low-quality submissions.
Objectives
Build a single platform that streamlines summarization, writing, and citation.
Create a lean user experience with minimal screens and clear guidance.
Enable students to focus on writing, while AI handles the heavy lifting.
As a Product Designer, I was asked to design the workflow and make it as lean as possible using AI to create the objectives.
My Approach
Identified a need for:
AI summaries that are simple yet detailed.
A built-in citation reference manager.
A dashboard for project management.
2. User Flow
User signs up / logs in.
Uploads assignment → AI generates a simplified & detailed summary on how to write it.
a. Enters writing space with:
Rich text editor to write what AI has suggested.
Grammar/style checker
Citation manager
b. Completes draft → AI compares with summary → provides rating/feedback.
c. Export final work (PDF/DOC).
d. Dashboard shows projects, stats, and “Start Project” CTA.
3. Key Design Decisions
Lean UI: Fewer screens, more modals (upload, citation, export).
Dashboard as hub: Clear navigation with side nav (Dashboard, Projects, Profile, Settings, Logout).
Landing page: One-page with direct CTAs (Start Project, Sign Up Free).
AI Review & Rating: Helps students measure how well their writing aligns with the AI summary.

AI guide and structure after pasting or uploaded. This is to tell the user what is needed from them
AI Summary page to review what has been written and match it to what it recommend.
