Designing a new product MAVUS - maritime management software for seafarers and superintendents

The Problem

1. Work processes on ships is overwhelmingly manual and tenuous.

2. Culture of trust between seafarers and superintendents can be improved upon

Final Result

A mobile application for junior crew and senior crew, web application for superintendents as well as an admin interface for developers.

Main findings from user interview:

Pain point #1: Work processes on ships are overwhelmingly manual and tedious

Pain point #2: The senior crew is responsible for the junior crew(as they have more experience) and also have to make sure that all documents are filed properly(forms, attachments, reporting)

Pain point #3: Culture of trust between seafarers and superintendents can be improved upon. Since on shore superintendents aren't experienced with work onboard ships, this can create communication issues with seafarers
