FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Laramie, Wyo. – Macy’s will have their 95th Annual Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thursday, Nov. 25, 2021, at 9:00 a.m. in New York City.
The Macy’s parade will be broadcasted nationwide on NBC-TV and starts at 9 a.m. with the opening song ‘Let’s Have a Parade,’ and ends at noon, in all time zones.
“Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade has been a New York City institution for more than nine decades, growing to become an icon of American pop culture as it annually marks the official start of the holiday season,” Will Coss, the executive producer of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
The three-hour broadcast will be anchored by The TODAY Show’s Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb, and Al Roker.
The parade will include six balloons on bikes, 27 giant character balloons and floats, clowns, and Santa Claus as the final float.
Some returning character balloons and floats are SpongeBob SquarePants and Gary, Paw Patrol by Nickelodeon, The Smurfs, 1-2-3 Sesame Street, and Tom Turkey.
One of the new character balloons that are coming this year is the Grogu by Funko, which is 29 feet long. Grogu’s ear span is longer than a telephone pole, it is 37 feet wide!
Other new character balloons are Ada Twist, Scientist from Netflix, Pikachu and Eevee from The Pokémon Company International, Tiptoe by Macy’s, and Toni, The Bandleader Bear.
“Funko is ecstatic to bring the Funko Pop! version of the character as a Grogu-themed balloon to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade,” says Brian Mariotti, the chief executive officer of Funko.
Instead of performers, there will be performer groups this year. Groups that are going to join Macy’s parade are Ballet Hispànico, the Big Apple Circus, Jumper’s United, and a lot more.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, staff and volunteers will be vaccinated, and all participants and staff will wear a face-covering mask.
“We applaud Macy's work to creatively continue this beloved tradition last year and look forward to welcoming back Parade watchers to experience it safely, live, and in person this November,” says Bill de Blasio, the New York City mayor.
Macy’s decided to reduce the number of participants between 800 and 1,600 individuals, which is 10 to 20 percent of a regular parade day.
"For our 95th celebration, we are delighted to return this cherished holiday tradition closer to its original form as we march down the streets of New York City and into the homes of a nationwide audience,” says Coss.
