The holiday season is fast approaching. While you are busy making your home more festive for the holidays, don’t forget about your guest room. Are you expecting out-of-town visitors to stay at your home in the upcoming months? Why not make their stay more comfortable with a little guest room makeover.
Start by clearing out the clutter. Often the guest room is used as a workout room, home office or for extra storage. The room should be a comfortable living space for your guests.
For a Great Night’s Sleep
For some people, it can be hard to get a good night’s sleep in a strange bed. So make your guest room more comfortable by using 600-thread count cotton sheets. In the Dallas area, you can find luxurious sheets and bedding at Peacock Alley and Duxiana.
Even here in Dallas, winter nights can be chilly. Leave a few extra blankets or a vintage quilt on the end of the bed for those chilly nights, along with a few extra pillows.
Special Bedside Table Touches
Place a small alarm clock on the bedside table
They don’t want to be late for breakfast.
Candles
Create a warm ambiance for your guests with fragrant candles. Try the lovely NEST Holiday Classic candles. It will fill the room with the aroma of season is created with a blend of pomegranate, Mandarin orange, pine, cloves and cinnamon with a touch of vanilla and amber.
Candy and other late night snacks
Place a small basket or tray of treats in the guest room. Consider pre-packaged treats like Kind Bars, a small box of Toffee to Go and bottled water are perfect for a lovely late night snack.
Create a cozy reading nook
Even in a small room, you can create a cozy spot for reading, relaxing or taking an afternoon nap. Place a comfortable arm chair, with a soft pillow and a warm throw, and include a small table and a good reading lamp.
Add a few books and magazines
Give your guest the option of selecting a few books from your personal library, along with magazines and interesting coffee table books.
Wi-Fi password
If your home is equipped with Wi-Fi, why not provide your guest with the password. Make business cards if you have multiple guests. This works great if you are hosting the whole family.
Is your guest room large enough to include an office area? Even though they are on vacation, many people will want to check emails, social media and maybe get a little work done.
Place a small desk (with room for a laptop) and a chair in the corner. An extension cord or a power strip is an added bonus that they will appreciate.
Help them explore the city
Help your guest explore your city on their own. They may have a rental car and a mobile phone with GPS, but they will love a personalized city map of popular local attractions, your favorite restaurants, shops and night spots.
Adding a few special touches will make your guest room a home away from home.
