The Spa Amsterdam - A Calm, Photo-Led Spa Website Redesign

Overview

The Spa Amsterdam is a boutique spa in Amsterdam West, offering massage treatments, couples experiences and spa packages. Its website introduces the spaces and services through warm photography, a restrained palette and clear routes to explore treatments or book a visit.

My role

I handled the website design and development, bringing together the visual layout, typography, treatment content and responsive presentation across desktop and mobile.

Design focus

The site balances two priorities: communicating the atmosphere of a private spa and making practical information easy to find. Visitors can see the rooms, compare treatment options, check prices and find booking links within the same experience.
Three elements give the design its character:
Warm treatment-room photography that introduces the physical space.
Cream and forest-green sections with subtle bronze details.
Expressive Fraunces serif headings paired with readable Inter body text.

From atmosphere to treatments

The opening composition places a large serif headline over a room photograph. Two direct actions, “Book your visit” and “View treatments,” give visitors a choice between booking and exploring.
Below the introduction, three photographic cards present massages, spa packages and couples treatments. Each combines an image, a short explanation and a link. This creates an overview before the more detailed treatment and pricing content.

Showing the guest experience

A forest-green section changes the pace of the page. Room photography sits beside a description of the spa and a four-part treatment journey: arrival and foot bath, oil selection, the treatment itself, and tea afterward.
The room gallery returns to a cream background. Its varied image sizes show single treatment rooms and couple suites, helping visitors see the spaces before they arrive. Spa packages, vouchers, guest reviews and frequently asked questions add further context around the main booking journey.

The mobile experience

On smaller screens, the content stacks into a single column. A compact menu and prominent booking button sit above the opening photograph, while the treatment cards become a vertical sequence with their images, descriptions and links kept together.
The accompanying video shows the desktop browsing experience and treatment-card hover before finishing on the mobile layout.

The finished website

The live site brings treatments, prices, rooms, packages and contact information into a consistent visual experience. Its strongest feature is the relationship between the physical spa and the interface: warm materials and room photography supported by calm typography and clear navigation.

What the client had to say

Nesar built a fast, clean Astro site for a Dutch spa and kept the URL structure, canonicals and schema intact for SEO. Quick to respond, easy to brief, and he fixes feedback fast. Would hire again.
