My obsession with studio management and fitness business development began in 2018. I had the opportunity to work with a new studio as the general manager. This experience taught me firsthand the intricacies of operating a successful business and provided the knowledge I needed in order to eventually build my own business. During my tenure, I implemented policies that delivered radical culture shifts, dramatically reduced employee turnover, and strengthened employee and customer satisfaction as we navigated the uncertainty of the pandemic with poise and grace. Despite the obstacles presented by the pandemic, ASK Boxing continued to grow and leadership was able to open a second location. With minds set on continued expansion, both the business and I were ready to evolve our relationship. I stepped into a business consulting role with the company in order to provide insight and operational perspective in order for the business to scale successfully.
ASK Boxing’s desire to scale came to a head with the business’s lack of documented procedures for essential business tasks and employee onboarding. They knew they could not provide in-person training as owners and recognized their need to create more efficiency in order to grow effectively. We decided to utilize the Employee Handbook as a training tool in order to help managers and employees at each of location better understand how to be successful in their roles.
Now with multiple clubs in multiple states, developing a comprehensive document that outlined all of our policies and procedures, as well as described the culture of the workplace, expectations from leadership, and what employees could expect from leadership became the key to success in recuiting, onboarding, and retaining top talent in the industry.
