Overview
I was tasked with designing a Christmas card that conveyed holiday cheer and featured a central illustration of a bird.
Project Objectives
Create a Christmas card with a wintery bird illustration as the main focus.
Convey a sense of holiday warmth, peace, and joy through imagery and color.
Ensure the design is suitable for print formats.
Creative Direction
Theme & Imagery:
A bird that’s commonly associated with winter or the holiday season, such as a robin, cardinal, or chickadee.
The bird should be perched on a snowy branch or amidst festive winter foliage (holly, pine, mistletoe).
Add light festive elements, such as a subtle dusting of snow, gentle sparkle, or tiny holiday decorations on the branch.
Color Palette:
Winter-inspired colors: deep reds, greens, and whites, with touches of gold or silver for a hint of festive sparkle.
Soft, muted background tones that allowed the bird illustration to stand out without overwhelming the composition.
Style:
Hand-painted in digital gouache with the high level of detail I typically include in my paintings, both digital and physical.
Maintain a balance of elegance and simplicity, avoiding overly bright or garish elements.

Technical Requirements
Dimensions: Standard card size (5” x 7”) with consideration for bleed and safe zones for printing.
Formats: Provide in high-resolution for print (300 dpi, CMYK).
File Types: Editable source file (PSD) and export as JPEG and PDF for ease of printing.
