RecruitmentBot is an AI-powered prescreening tool. Clients liked the AI capability. But the product had a trust problem.
Key problems were:
The UI felt outdated and hard to navigate
Complex, work-heavy flows created a poor user experience, making processes difficult to understand and navigate.
Job seekers were abandoning applications midway through
HR users struggled with a disjointed job setup flow
The experience didn't match the sophistication of the technology underneath it
The scope covered the full product, including both the applicant and admin-side experiences.
My role
End-to-end product design across two distinct user journeys.
User research · product strategy · responsive design · visual design · prototyping · testing.
Discovery
I ran cross-functional sessions to align on goals and surface known pain points, then used affinity mapping to organize scattered feedback across roles into clear, actionable themes.
Expert reviews and usability audits of existing screens helped me pinpoint where friction was highest, and why
Three journey maps followed: one for job seekers moving through the AI chatbot, one for HR users setting up and enabling jobs, and one for hiring managers screening candidates post-application
Each map surfaced a different layer of the problem
What I redesigned
Applicant experience
New dashboard to manage profiles, resumes, and applications in one place
Restructured chatbot with mobile-first layout, multiple input types, and clearer question design
Inline guidance is accessible throughout the chat to reduce drop-off and build confidence
Streamlined branding that frees screen space for the conversation itself
Applicant Dashboard: Before vs After
Admin and HR experience
Simplified job posting flow with clearer status visibility and lower friction.
Candidate screening interface with grid and list views, strong visual hierarchy, and fast filtering
Compatibility insights surfaced more clearly to support faster, less biased decisions.
Scalable design system built for future development and multi-client customization
Admin Dashboard for HR and hiring managers
A decision worth knowing
I mapped edge cases across all three roles before touching high-fidelity. Applicant, HR user, and hiring manager each had a different mental model and different failure points. Getting those mapped early meant the final designs held up under real conditions, not just ideal ones.
