Enhancing Cultural Exploration in Brasília

Overview

This case study delves into the transformation of the Explanada dos Mistérios app, aiming to enhance user experience in discovering cultural events and activities in Brasília. We will address challenges such as information dispersion, design inconsistencies, and limited visibility for artists and event producers. By revamping user flows and establishing a cohesive design system, our objective was to create an intuitive and engaging platform that contributes to the local cultural scene.

Role and Duration

In this project, I served as the UX designer, responsible for redefining user flows, creating wireframes, prototypes, and developing a design system. The project spanned six months, from January to June 2023.

Problem Statement

Information Discovery Challenge: Residents of Brasília faced difficulties in locating information about cultural events due to the absence of a centralized source.

Decentralized Information and Design Inconsistency: Artists and event producers struggled to promote their offerings, leading to industry instability and diminished visibility. Furthermore, the existing app lacked a clear and coherent visual concept.

Goals

Create an intuitive app that enables users to effortlessly discover cultural events in Brasília.

Foster the local cultural scene by highlighting artists and event producers.

Enhance the Explanada dos Mistérios brand image through consistent and accessible design.

Design Process

Research and Insights:

Leveraged previous company research and conducted desk research to comprehend user needs.

Developed detailed personas representing various potential user types.

Employed empathy maps to explore users' motivations, frustrations, and desires when seeking cultural events.

Problem Definition and Solutions:

Identified the lack of a centralized source as the core issue.

Proposed the creation of a design system to guide app redesign.

Advocated for a dedicated space for artists and event producers to showcase their offerings.

User Flows and Wireframes:

Revisited and redesigned user flows based on the proposed solutions.

Crafted detailed wireframes illustrating various screens and interactions within the app.

Prioritized simplicity and clarity in information layout, focusing on the user journey.

Prototyping and Design System:

Developed high-fidelity interactive prototypes to validate proposed solutions.

Established a comprehensive design system encompassing color guidelines, typography, components, and interaction patterns.

Ensured visual consistency throughout the app, enhancing user understanding and usability.

Results

The new app offers a seamless and intuitive experience, enabling users to effortlessly discover cultural events in Brasília. Artists and event producers now have an exclusive platform to promote their offerings, enhancing visibility and bolstering the local cultural scene. The cohesive and user-friendly design positively impacts the Explanada dos Mistérios brand image. It becomes evident that the app redesign significantly contributes to fostering local culture and improving users' experience in exploring cultural activities throughout Brasília.
