SmartBack — AI Health & Fitness App Landing Page & Mobile UI
SmartBack is an AI-powered fitness app that generates personalized exercise programs for back pain relief. As co-founder, I led the complete design and front-end development — from brand identity to landing page to mobile app UI — with a focus on validating the product quickly without sacrificing quality.
The Challenge
Most health and fitness apps either look too clinical (boring, medical-feeling) or too trendy (designed for 20-somethings, not the people who actually need them). SmartBack's target audience is adults 35-55 dealing with back pain — people who are skeptical of gimmicks and need to trust the product before paying.
The challenge was to design an MVP that felt credible and premium without over-designing. Every screen needed to earn trust, reduce friction, and drive conversions — not just look good in a portfolio.
The Approach
I started with a minimal brand identity: clean logo variations, a warm neutral background palette, and a confident teal accent that feels approachable without being clinical. The goal was "trustworthy wellness" — not hospital, not gym bro.
The landing page was designed and developed as a conversion-focused flow: strong hero with clear value proposition, social proof through benefit-driven sections, and multiple CTAs placed at natural decision points. I kept the layout scannable for an older demographic that won't scroll endlessly.
For the mobile app, I prioritized clarity over feature density. Large touch targets, simple navigation, and a calm visual hierarchy that doesn't overwhelm users who may already be in pain and frustrated.
Key Design Decisions:
Neutral color palette: Builds trust without feeling sterile or overly medical
Conversion-first landing page: Designed to validate demand, not just showcase features
Clarity over trends: UI decisions made for 35-55 year olds, not Dribbble likes
Minimal MVP scope: Focused on core user flows, deferred nice-to-haves
Responsive development: Built the landing page myself using Next.js
