Vertigo is a mobile application designed to streamline the process of finding reliable cleaning services. It aims to enhance user convenience by providing a platform to easily discover nearby cleaning service providers, encompassing various needs such as house cleaning, laundry, dry cleaning, and potentially more specialized services. The core value proposition lies in simplifying the often tedious task of locating and selecting suitable cleaning options.

Problem Statement

Individuals often face challenges in efficiently finding dependable cleaning services that meet their specific needs. These challenges can include:
Fragmented Market: Difficulty in navigating a diverse and often unorganized market of individual cleaners and small cleaning companies.
Lack of Transparency: Limited information regarding service quality, pricing, reliability, and user feedback for different providers.
Time and Effort: The process of searching, contacting, and vetting multiple cleaning services can be time-consuming and inconvenient.
Trust and Security: Concerns about the trustworthiness and security of engaging unfamiliar cleaning personnel.
Specific Needs Matching: Difficulty in finding providers who offer the exact cleaning services required (e.g., deep cleaning, specific fabric care for laundry).

User Research Plan

The user research will focus on understanding the needs, behaviors, and pain points of individuals seeking various cleaning services. I employed the following method:
User Interviews:
Objective: To gain in-depth qualitative insights into users' experiences, preferences, and frustrations related to finding and using different types of cleaning services.
Participants: A diverse group of individuals who regularly use or have used cleaning services (e.g., busy professionals, families, individuals with specific cleaning needs). Aim for approximately 5-7 interviews.
Sample Questions:
"Tell me about the different types of cleaning services you typically use (e.g., house cleaning, laundry, dry cleaning)?"
"How do you currently find providers for these services?"
"What are the biggest challenges you face when looking for cleaning services?"
"What factors are most important to you when choosing a cleaning service (e.g., price, quality, reliability, range of services, eco-friendliness)?"
"Have you ever had a negative experience with a cleaning service? What happened?"
"What features would make finding and managing cleaning services easier for you?"
"How often do you use different types of cleaning services?"
"What are your expectations regarding communication, scheduling, and payment with cleaning service providers?"
Real-world Data Consideration: Researching common household service usage patterns in Lagos (if available) could inform interview questions. For instance, are there specific times of the year or events that drive higher demand for certain cleaning services? We can also explore online forums or social media groups in Lagos where people discuss and recommend cleaning services to understand their current methods and pain points.

Design Approach

My design approach will remain user-centered, iterative, and focused on creating a seamless and intuitive experience for finding a variety of cleaning services. Key principles guiding the design process include:
Comprehensive Service Discovery: The app will clearly categorize and allow users to easily find various types of cleaning services.
Transparency and Trust: Detailed provider profiles, service descriptions, pricing information, and user reviews will build trust and facilitate informed decisions.
Efficient Booking and Management: Streamlined processes for requesting quotes, booking services, managing appointments, and handling payments.
Personalization and Customization: Allowing users to specify their cleaning needs and preferences for different service types.
Reliability and Quality Focus: Features that highlight provider credentials, experience, and user feedback to ensure quality service.
The design process will involve similar stages as before, but with a broader scope to accommodate multiple service types:
Information Architecture: Structuring the app to effectively categorize and navigate through different cleaning service options.
Wireframing: Creating layouts that accommodate various service listings and specific information required for each type (e.g., laundry bag size vs. house cleaning square footage).
Prototyping: Developing interactive prototypes that demonstrate the user flow for finding and booking different cleaning services.
Visual Design: Creating a visual identity that is trustworthy, professional, and appealing to a broad user base seeking various cleaning solutions.
Usability Testing: Testing the ease of finding and booking different types of cleaning services with potential users.

The Solution

Vertigo will be a user-friendly mobile application that addresses the identified problems by offering the following key features:
Geolocation-based Search: Automatically detects the user's location and displays nearby laundromats and laundry service providers on a map and in a list view.
Service Listings: Comprehensive profiles for each laundry service, including:
Service types offered (e.g., wash and fold, dry cleaning, ironing).
Pricing information (per item, per load, subscription models if applicable).
Operating hours and contact details.
Photos of the facility (where available).
Ratings and Reviews: A system for users to rate and review laundry services based on their experience, fostering transparency and helping others make informed choices.
Customizable Preferences: Filters and sorting options based on criteria such as price, rating, service type, turnaround time, and specific requirements (e.g., eco-friendly options).
Booking and Scheduling: Functionality to directly book or schedule laundry services through the app (depending on the service provider's capabilities).
Secure Payment Integration: Options for secure in-app payments for participating laundry services, enhancing convenience.
Order Tracking: For services offering pickup and delivery, users can track the status of their laundry.
Notifications: Updates on order status, special offers, and new nearby services.
User Profiles: Allowing users to save their preferences, payment information, and order history for a more personalized experience.
