Kowo is a mobile application designed for remote workers who want to discover new places, connect with communities, and combine work with travel experiences.
The platform helps users find remote-work destinations around the world, whether for a short stay or several months, while making it easier to explore new environments and opportunities.
What did I do at Kowo?
Role: UI/UX Designer
Figma, User Research, Wireframing, User Flows, Storyboards, Prototyping, Information Architecture, Design Systems, Mobile Design, Usability Testing
Task
The goal was to create a simple and engaging mobile experience that helped remote workers discover destinations, understand available opportunities, and confidently plan their next stay.
The product needed clear navigation and intuitive user journeys while supporting a growing set of travel, remote-work, and community-focused features.
Solution
I worked across the end-to-end UX design process, from understanding user needs to creating wireframes, user flows, prototypes, and final interface designs.
I created wireframes, storyboards, user flows, process flows, and site maps to clearly communicate interaction concepts and define how users moved through the application.
I focused on key experiences including onboarding, destination discovery, search, location details, recommendations, saved places, profile management, and trip planning.
I conducted user-centered research to better understand the needs, motivations, and pain points of remote workers and used those insights to improve product workflows and design decisions.
I also evolved and maintained the product’s design system, including reusable components, typography, colors, spacing, navigation patterns, buttons, cards, and interaction states to ensure consistency across the mobile application.
In addition, I maintained research and design documentation and helped improve internal design collaboration processes, making communication between designers, product managers, and developers more efficient.
Challenges & Solutions
1. Destination Discovery
Challenge: Users needed an easy way to explore unfamiliar destinations without becoming overwhelmed by information.
Solution: Created clear content hierarchy, search patterns, recommendations, and destination cards to make exploration more intuitive.
2. Complex User Journeys
Challenge: Travel and remote-work planning involved multiple steps and decisions.
Solution: Mapped detailed user flows and simplified interactions to create a more natural path from discovery to planning.
3. Design Consistency
Challenge: The application needed to maintain a consistent experience as new features were introduced.
Solution: Evolved and maintained a scalable design system with reusable components and standardized interaction patterns.
4. Team Collaboration
Challenge: Design decisions and research needed to be communicated clearly across teams.
Solution: Improved design documentation and collaboration processes to create stronger alignment between design, product, and engineering.
This project demonstrated my ability to combine user research, mobile UX design, information architecture, interaction design, design systems, prototyping, and cross-functional collaboration to create a scalable and user-centered mobile experience.
