THE ROTATIONALIST™ — Hospitality Division Phase 2: Web Design & Full Deployment
Overview
The Rotationalist™ is a private culinary consultancy operating at the intersection of performance science and elevated hospitality. Founded by Luke Summersgill-Smith, the brand serves ultra-high-net-worth clients across superyachts, private residences, and luxury retreat environments — delivering precision eating systems engineered for longevity, performance, and elevated living.
Phase 2 of this ongoing engagement focused on translating the brand's identity into a fully functional, live web presence.
The Challenge
The client needed a website that matched the brand's premium positioning — minimal, editorial, and authoritative — while clearly communicating a complex, multi-service offering to a discerning audience. Beyond design, the project required resolving a significant technical challenge: the domain therotationalist.com was registered through Cloudflare and had a system-locked DNS record (a Registrar parking page CNAME) that blocked third-party hosting connections and had no obvious removal path through the standard UI.
The Approach
Working in close collaboration with the Framer builder (Lolu), I led the project from structure to deployment across two phases:
Design & Content Architecture — The site was built in Framer across 8 pages: Home, Hospitality, Philosophy, About, Portfolio, References, Dossier, and Contact. The visual language draws from the brand's dark, high-contrast identity — combining editorial typography with refined layout to position The Rotationalist™ as a world-class operator in its field.
Technical Deployment — Once the site was ready to go live, I identified and resolved the DNS conflict. The Cloudflare Registrar had automatically placed a proxied CNAME at the root domain (@) that Framer's servers flagged as a conflict. Standard DNS editing was blocked — the record was locked at the UI and API level. I navigated to the Cloudflare Registrar settings, located the Parking Page toggle (buried under domain configuration), disabled it, and then added Framer's required DNS records directly: two A records at the root (31.43.160.6 and 31.43.161.6) and a CNAME for www pointing to sites.framer.app — all DNS-only, no Cloudflare proxy interference.
The Result
therotationalist.com went live with a clean READY status across all Framer domain checks. The site loads on both root and www, with no redirects, no conflicts, and full SSL. The client confirmed it was working within the same session.
The Rotationalist™ now has a digital presence that reflects the calibre of its clientele — and Phase 3 is already in discussion.
