The JV Communications brand aims to help small, local businesses reach their full potential, through marketing and photography. Dedicated to helping customers pursue their dreams, this was important in the brand itself, representing a brighter future when you work alongside the company.

The Challenge

Our biggest challenge with JV Communications was that it was a new brand, that hadn't yet made a name for itself in the marketing industry. The old brand that had been created was dark, and didn't showcase the bright, friendly personalities of the founders enough.
I wanted to make a brand that would both show their personalities as a small business, as it is extremely important when starting out to make that personal connection with your clients, which is greatly helped by having an authentic brand from the beginning.
A visual challenge that we needed to work with was the naming of the brand, since the two words sat at opposite ends of the character spectrum. Communications was much longer than JV (the founders initials combined), and they wanted to keep communications as a full word in the identity.

The Outcome

After an in depth dive of the clients competitors and target market, I created a couple of logos that best suited the brand. We went with something that was much brighter than their previous self initiated branding, using familiar blue hues with brighter backgrounds, and shapes that resembled the sun, as they were very keen to have the sun incorporated into their logo to show their personalities.
I created a custom illustrated logo, with a similar typeface for communications, which sat underneath the sun, as to not be too bold and sink into the background. This also meant that in certain situations, the clients could just use the JV symbol logo and forgo the word communications when used at smaller sizes.
