Co-Designing a Mixed Reality Learning Experience

The Challenge: In collaboration with OSOCO, a software development company, we set out to explore the potential of Mixed Reality (MR) in education. The goal was to create a user-centered learning experience that seamlessly integrates digital and physical environments while addressing real classroom challenges.
My Role: I led a Participatory Design Workshop to gather insights, validate user needs, and co-create a vision for the product. My contributions included:
Workshop Design & Facilitation: Structured and led interactive sessions with educators, developers, and students to explore how MR could enhance learning.
User Research & Synthesis: Conducted qualitative research, capturing insights on classroom dynamics, accessibility, and usability challenges.
Prototyping & Concept Development: Helped translate workshop findings into actionable design recommendations, guiding the next iteration of the MR product.
The Solution: Through a collaborative and user-centered approach, we identified key use cases, potential barriers, and must-have features for the Mixed Reality classroom experience. The outcomes included:
Refined MR interaction models, improving student engagement and teacher control.
Accessibility-first design principles, ensuring inclusivity in digital learning spaces.
Strategic insights for OSOCO’s product roadmap, aligning tech capabilities with real educational needs.
The Impact: The workshop led to a clearer, validated product direction, enabling OSOCO to move forward with a user-informed development strategy. Our participatory approach ensured that educators and students were at the center of the design process, increasing the likelihood of real-world adoption and success.
