Individuals of all ages would like to get to know their neighbours and foster relationships to fulfill various objectives but don’t know how to go about successfully doing that.

How might we help individuals and families that have moved to a new community meet their neighbours?

Conducted user interviews to better understand user needs, wants, and pain points and asked a multitude of questions including:

Difficulty Staying in Touch: Despite their age, individuals find it difficult to stay in touch with their neighbours as it feels unnatural to ask for their number or social media account after interacting only once.

Comfort and Safety of Self: The primary reason that an individual would like to get to know their neighbours is to ensure that others living near them are looking out for them while they do the same.

Attending Events to Meet Neighbours: Individuals would attend events hosted by the community/apartment association or even neighbours (once they have ensured it’s safe to attend) to meet those living around them and to make friends.

Preferred Method when Asking for Advice: Individuals feel more comfortable asking their neighbours (even those they don’t personally know) for advice and recommendations digitally.

Alternative for Face to Face Interaction: Individuals in their 20’s find it difficult to approach neighbours that are similar in age or older than them.

Interest-Based Group Chats: The secondary reason that an individual would like to get to know their neighbours is to have friends living close to them. However, individuals in their 20’s seek friends based on similar interests and hobbies and would prefer to meet new people through an avenue like interest-based group chats.
