To address these challenges, Bryden Wood, in collaboration with Highways England and their supply chain, developed the Rapid Engineering Model (REM). This initiative included building a comprehensive workflow dashboard and multiple backend services to automate processes like analysis, evaluation, and layout design. Additionally, a robust DevOps capability was implemented using OpenShift, as part of a Platform Engineering initiative with National Highways. The REM platform introduced a data-driven, automated design approach, combining automation with human engineering expertise and establishing a central 'data repository' connected with other SMP and Highways England systems. This promoted better collaboration, transparency, and efficiency across the project lifecycle.
