Performance Coaching | My Mindsmith Course Design Process

Mindsmith (main authoring tool, which covered storyboarding draft and image generation)
I used AI and Mindsmith to speed up the first draft, then refined it through instructional design to create a more intentional and engaging learning experience. Starting from a detailed prompt, I developed a working draft and then improved it through iterative review, focusing on relevance, emotional connection, meaningful practice, branding, and overall cohesion.

What Value Can I Add as a (Human) Learning Designer?

Reviewed the initial structure critically and identified where it felt too theoretical or generic.
Made instructional decisions to better align the course with the brief, learning goals, and learner needs.
Introduced James’s story to show how staff performance affects real people and to make the content feel more human and relevant.
Included before and after stories for both patients and employees
Added scenario-based activities to make the experience more applied and closer to real-life coaching situations.
Chose to scaffold learning progressively, moving from controlled practice to freer practice across the experience.
Revised the transcript to make it sound more natural, human, and meaningful.
Improved the emotional tone so the course felt supportive.
Helped position managers as valued contributors to the company’s mission.
Updated overlays and visual details to better align with branding.
Used the brand guidelines to configure the theme
Checked alt descriptions to ensure they added context and supported the learning experience.
Reviewed the course page by page for cohesion, consistency, relevance, and structure.
Ensured branding, objectives, information accuracy, and learner flow all worked together coherently.
The main challenge was turning an AI-generated first draft into a course that felt meaningful, practical, and instructionally strong. What can I offer, as a human being, that AI can’t? What can make my course different?
My contribution was bringing empathy, relevance and meaning into the course, through details AI cannot yet comprehend due to its lack of human, living experience. I focused on those aspects to make strategic changes to the already decent AI draft.
