SUMMER FICTION MAGAZINE

STORY OF THE MONTH

Although most of my career has focused on writing non-fiction for businesses, I thoroughly enjoy any opportunity to dabble in fiction writing, crafting entertaining, original stories, so I thoroughly enjoyed working on this piece for Summer Fiction Magazine back in 2021.
The brief was to write a short retelling, up to 2,100 words, meeting their strict formatting guidelines, which featured an all-female cast of characters and drew inspiration from English folklore, regional to the south of England.
My story offered a fresh twist on C.S. Lewis's The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, weaving elements of fairy tales and legends that were local to the area where I grew up. It was also voted 'Story of the Month' by the magazine's founder, which is an achievement that I'm still immensely proud of to this day.
