UNDP launched Jari Emas mobile app to combat use of mercury in small-scale gold mines

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) launched the Jari Emas mobile app under the GOLD-ISMIA initiative to combat the use of mercury in small-scale gold mining operations in Indonesia. The initiative focuses on creating safer, more sustainable practices in the mining sector.
Objective UNDP GOLD-ISMIA was looking for ways to record and monitor mercury avoidance at small-scale gold mining operations in Indonesia. The solution needed to work in remote mining areas, be simple enough for miners to adopt, and provide reliable data for stakeholders.
Our Solutions Dihardja Software helped conceptualize, design, and develop a mobile app and web dashboard to record and monitor gold mining operations in remote areas of Indonesia. The native Android app was designed with a simple and intuitive user interface, making it easy for miners to use in the field.
Impacts
Launched at COP 4.2 Minamata Convention on Mercury in March 2022
Adopted by 18 small-scale gold mining operations and growing
Approved by Indonesia’s Ministry of Environment and Forestry
