Making group booking profitability visible at FLYR Hospitality
A large group booking can fill rooms and still be the wrong deal. At FLYR Hospitality, I designed the Group Quotation workflow to help hotel revenue teams judge what a booking adds after accounting for displaced regular bookings and VAT. I also designed collaboration tools that kept team discussion beside the financial data.
FLYR Group Quotation overview
Role
I worked as Senior Product Designer from May to November 2024. I interviewed hotel partners and advisory board members, designed and tested interactive prototypes, and worked directly with product managers and engineers through delivery.
Challenges
Profitability: Total booking revenue could not show whether accepting a group would leave the hotel better off after displaced regular bookings.
Financial detail: Teams needed group revenue, group profit, incremental revenue, and incremental profit, with VAT-inclusive and VAT-exclusive views.
Collaboration: Revenue teams discussed quotations over email, away from the figures they were evaluating.
Configuration: Each property could have different tax and revenue settings, so the workflow could not rely on one fixed setup.
Approach
Interviewed hotel partners and advisory board members to understand how group deals were evaluated.
Designed and tested interactive prototypes for the quotation workflow, profitability metrics, and collaboration layer.
Worked with product managers and engineers to balance business needs, usability, and technical constraints.
Problem
A group can take rooms that would otherwise sell to regular guests. This lost opportunity is called displacement. Incremental profit accounts for that trade-off, making it more useful than total booking revenue alone.
The interface needed to make the headline easy to scan, the calculation easy to inspect, and the discussion easy to follow.

Solution
1. Group Quotation workflow
Shipped the Group Quotation MVP.
Split quotation setup into three steps so one form did not have to carry every tax and revenue setting.
Surfaced incremental accommodation revenue in the quotation list before someone opened the detail view.
2. Expandable profitability metrics
Designed expandable cards for group revenue, group profit, incremental revenue, and incremental profit.
Kept headline figures scannable while giving revenue specialists access to VAT and displacement details in place.
Connected each result to its explanation so teams could understand and question the calculation.
3. In-app collaboration
Designed commenting, colleague tagging, thread resolution, consolidated notifications, and live user indicators.
Kept discussion beside the figures instead of in a separate email thread.
Rolled the collaboration layer out module by module so the team could validate it before expanding it.
Outcome and product impact
The Group Quotation MVP shipped.
Collaboration tools rolled out across modules in phases.
FLYR’s current Groups page reports a +22% group conversion rate and group analysis reduced from hours to seconds.
FLYR also describes full revenue visibility across rooms, food and beverage, audiovisual services, and other revenue.
