Connect Sphere - A Connection Platform

Project Outline

This project focuses on developing a community-driven social media app designed to foster real-time connections and shared experiences. The app allows users to interact through posts, join specific interest groups, and communicate via direct messaging. It emphasizes user engagement and simplicity, offering an intuitive UI that ensures easy navigation.

Roles and Responsibilities

As the lead UI/UX Designer, my responsibilities included:

• Conducting user research and identifying key pain points.

• Designing wireframes and high-fidelity mockups using Figma.

• Collaborating with developers to ensure seamless UI handoff.

• Overseeing the entire design process, from ideation to final design testing.

• Implementing user feedback to optimize the app’s features and usability.

Project Objectives

The main objectives of this project were to:

1. Create a social media platform that encourages genuine user interaction and engagement.

2. Ensure a responsive and user-friendly interface across different devices.

3. Design specific interest group features to foster community-based connections.

4. Prioritize confidentiality and safe interactions for all users.

5. Incorporate tools for real-time updates and easy navigation between features.

Identifying the Challange

The key challenge was to design an app that promotes interaction but remains uncluttered. Users often feel overwhelmed with too many features, so finding a balance between functionality and simplicity was crucial. Additionally, we needed to address user safety and engagement issues, ensuring users feel secure while participating in the app’s activities.

Design Solution

The solution was to design a streamlined interface with key features:

• Join Groups: A feature to allow users to join communities based on their interests.

• User Posts and Messaging: Simple tools for sharing updates and interacting in group discussions or through direct messages.

• Onboarding Experience: We ensured users had a seamless start by asking them their preferences early on, shown through onboarding screens that set expectations and help personalize the experience.

• Dark Mode Design: We integrated dark mode for reduced eye strain and a modern aesthetic, appealing to a wide range of users.

Design Approach

Usability Testing

To ensure the app was intuitive and user-friendly, we conducted multiple rounds of usability testing:

• Focus Groups: We ran tests with small user groups to observe their interaction with features such as group joining, messaging, and profile navigation.

• Task Completion: Testers were asked to complete specific tasks (e.g., sending a message, joining a group) while being timed to measure efficiency.

• Feedback Loop: Based on the feedback gathered, adjustments were made to simplify the navigation flow and further enhance the onboarding process.

Final Design

The final design of the social media app integrates clean, modern visuals with a dark theme to enhance usability, reduce eye strain, and create a sleek aesthetic. The color palette, featuring #000000 for the background, #2BCCC7 for primary buttons, and #04BDB8 for smaller buttons, creates a visually appealing and easy-to-navigate interface.
