Designing Clareo

A Personal Finance Operating System

πŸš€ The Challenge

Managing personal finances across multiple bank accounts, investments, and budget categories often leads to cognitive overload. Traditional finance apps are either too spreadsheet-heavy or overly simplified, lacking actionable foresight.
Clareo was conceived as an all-in-one personal finance operating system designed to eliminate financial anxiety by replacing raw numbers with intelligent insights, active cash flow management, and real-time asset tracking.

πŸ’‘ The Solution

I designed a mobile-first, high-clarity financial dashboard that transforms complex asset structures into a simple 3-screen framework: Overview, Cash Flow, and Portfolio.
By pairing a sleek dark header UI for high-level figures with clean light-mode cards for actionable details, Clareo gives users immediate clarity on their net worth, daily spending boundaries, and long-term investment health.

🎨 Features

Proactive Insights Over Passive Data: Integrated smart prompt cards (e.g., "You're set to save $620 this month") that give users proactive feedback based on real-time spending behavior rather than static historical charts.
Frictionless Cash Flow Tracking: Created a prominent "Free to Spend" widget alongside a pay-day countdown to provide a clear, realistic spending boundary without making the user do manual calculations.
Contextual Alerts & Recommendations: Soft, non-intrusive alert badges warn users when spending exceeds budget limits in specific categories (like Dining), offering direct one-tap adjustments.
Clean Visual Hierarchy & Allocation: Utilized color-coded progress bars and dynamic area graphs in the Portfolio screen, letting users analyze asset distribution across ETFs, stocks, crypto, and cash at a single glance.

πŸ“ˆ Outcomes & Product Vision

Reduced Financial Stress: A streamlined UX pattern that lowers time-on-screen while maximizing user confidence in daily spending decisions.
Higher Engagement: Actionable micro-insights encourage daily check-ins over passive monthly reviews.
Modular Scalability: A flexible card-based UI component system built to seamlessly support future features like debt tracking and automated recurring transfers.
