Alpha Nocturn - RAMMOD

RAMMOD, commonly known as RAM, is a Spanish brand of artisanal mods (artisanal vaporizers) with a long history and a large number of consumers and followers. They mainly manufacture bottom feeder mods, although they also produce tubular mechanical mods, atomizers… 

Our client wanted to create a new pattern for laser engraving on one of its star products, the “Alpha”. In this project we were allowed total creative freedom, although the client did suggest us a couple of ideas; one of them was to look for a dark, “metal” aesthetic. One of the goals we set ourselves was for the pattern to be “seamless”, that is, completely closed and for all the faces of the engraving to fit together, since it is an engraving to be applied to a 3-dimensional object.

We start the project by creating a custom lettering of the word “alpha”, the name of the mod model. The letters were drawn completely by hand several times until we found the desired composition and then we went on to refine details by hand and finally we vectorized and added some elements to give the lettering depth and more personality. 

On this occasion, as we had total freedom, we also intervened in the brand's logo, adding fire to the eyes of the ram and a symbol of "occultist" aesthetics, but which lacks meaning, we did this solely for an aesthetic purpose. 

Once we had these two elements prepared, we placed them on the mapping that is used to carry out the laser engraving, we placed them on the door of the mod or the front of it and from there we began to draw several ideas on an ipad until we found one. which seemed appropriate. 

The shapes of the engraving are of an organic type and are reminiscent of the forms formed by smoke or steam when it expands. The hardest part of this job was squaring all the faces of the mod and making the shapes match giving a sense of continuity.

Finally, we created some mock-ups to get an idea of ​​how the lettering would look along with the RAM logo on some t-shirts.
