BBS CityLink

BBS CityLink is a private city-level map and directory designed to help BBS students understand where classmates have lived, are considering, or are moving to.

The product uses controlled access, profile visibility rules, city-level privacy, LinkedIn-only contact and admin workflows to support trusted network coordination without becoming a social feed.

Relocating to a new city is easier when you know who's already there. But most networking tools are either too public, too noisy, or not designed for trusted communities. BBS CityLink solves this by giving a closed group structured visibility into each other's locations and plans, without exposing personal details or creating social pressure.

Map-based network visibility A city-level map showing where community members are located, considering, or have lived. No street-level data. No exact addresses. Just enough context to know who might be a useful connection in a given city.

Controlled access and approval Entry is gated. Users are approved by admin before gaining visibility into the network. This keeps the community trusted and the data meaningful.

LinkedIn-only contact No in-app messaging, no DMs, no notifications. If you want to reach someone, you connect on LinkedIn. This keeps the platform calm and prevents it from becoming another inbox.

City-level privacy Users share city-level location only. The system is designed so no one can pinpoint where someone lives, only which cities they're connected to.

Admin communications and feedback systems Admin tools for managing approvals, sending updates, collecting feedback and maintaining the integrity of the community data.

This project required careful decisions about what not to build. No feed. No likes. No messaging. The value comes from structured visibility and trust, not engagement metrics. Every feature was evaluated against the question: does this help someone make a better relocation or networking decision?
