As a volunteer marketing assistant with UISCE, I wear several hats, and reformatting research articles and papers is one part of my tasks here. Below you'll find the screenshots of the finished PDF and then the original document I worked from.
My Refresh of the Paper
Since this document contained a lot of information that needed to be easily understood, I completely redesigned the layout. In this case, we were primarily concerned with:
- Page count reduction (which did result in a loss of white-space I had in the original design.) The font size, kerning, and line spacing were minimized as much as possible while still remaining comfortable for the reader.
- Choosing relevant and provocative images while remaining sensitive to the topic at hand
- Creating a professional-looking PDF that can be sent to politicians and community leaders
- To organize text, text highlights, and visuals in a way that makes the reader's eye naturally move to the next section of the document.
The project is currently being peer-reviewed by a peace studies scholar and will need further revisions once she is done.
