2D Animated Explainer

Mahalo Digital engaged me to produce a 2D animation explaining how Dell’s IoT platform unifies disparate surveillance devices into a single, intelligent ecosystem. Mahalo supplied the script and high-level art direction; from there, I handled music selection, illustrated supplemental assets, and executed all animation, choreography, character work, and motion-driven transitions needed to bring the story to life.

With the script and general direction in place, I first defined the pacing: a tight, music-supported rhythm that kept the concepts clear without slowing the viewer down. I sourced the music early to establish the energy and used it as the spine for the editorial flow.

Mahalo provided the core art direction, but I created additional illustrations and interface elements to round out the visual system. Character animations were kept simple and purposeful, supporting the explanation without overwhelming it.

The animation approach relied on clean 2D movement, nested transitions, and subtle particle elements to give the video a sense of technical sophistication. Each scene was choreographed to guide viewers through the idea of disparate surveillance devices feeding into a unified Dell-powered platform.

Motion was used strategically to simplify complexity — pulling back, pushing in, connecting concepts, and visually “routing” information to show how Dell’s ecosystem ties everything together.

The final explainer delivered an approachable and charming narrative that supported a highly technical subject. It showed how Dell’s IoT solution brings structure and intelligence to fragmented surveillance systems. The piece matched Mahalo’s direction, elevated the visual execution, and became a versatile asset for Dell’s broader communication and product education efforts.
