Overview
This is a period-tracking app built around a simple belief: understanding your body shouldn't feel clinical or intimidating. The goal was to design an experience that turns cycle tracking into a calm daily ritual — something that feels less like reading a medical chart and more like a supportive check-in with yourself. From cycle predictions to mood and wellness logging, every screen is meant to feel gentle, personal, and reassuring.
The Tension
Femtech has a specific design problem. Health data is inherently clinical — dates, phases, statistics, predictions — but the person using it is tracking something deeply personal, often on days when they don't feel their best. Lean too far into "medical" and the app feels cold and stressful; lean too far into "cute" and it loses credibility as a real health tool. The whole design lives in resolving that tension: making data feel warm without making it feel unserious.
Design Decisions
A few specific choices carry the experience:
Serif headings, sans-serif data — the elegant serif ("Cycle Journey", "Wellness Log") gives the app a personal, editorial warmth, while clean sans-serif keeps numbers and dates perfectly legible. This pairing is what makes health data feel human without losing clarity.
Soft pastels as emotional language — the muted blue, pink, and lilac aren't just pretty; they set a calm, safe tone and double as a color-coding system (period, ovulation, fertile window) that's readable at a glance.
Phase-aware tone — the app adjusts its message to the user's current cycle phase ("Luteal Phase — energy is shifting to a restful state"). It's a small touch that makes the app feel like it actually understands what she's going through.
Supportive insights, not just numbers — instead of raw data, the Body Insight card interprets it gently ("You're feeling happier today despite mild cramps"), turning tracking into encouragement.
The Flow
The experience is structured around three calm pillars: Cycle Journey (the predictive calendar and key dates), Wellness Log (daily mood, sleep, hydration, energy), and Cycle History (long-term regularity and patterns). Each answers a different question — "where am I now?", "how am I today?", "what's my pattern?" — without overwhelming the user with everything at once.
Reflection
The hardest part of this project wasn't visualizing cycle data — it was making something inherently clinical feel genuinely caring. In femtech, tone is a feature. The goal was an app that a user would open not out of obligation, but because it feels like a small moment of looking after herself.
