Business Overview For Homes

Homes.com is a major player in the online real estate market, owned by CoStar Group. Unlike competitors that sell leads to multiple agents, Homes.com operates on a unique "Your Listing, Your Lead" business model. This means that leads generated from a listing on their site are sent directly and exclusively to the listing agent, allowing them to keep 100% of their commission. They generate revenue through agent subscriptions and advertising products.

Goals

The core objective was to challenge the traditional online real estate model and become the industry's most agent-friendly platform. The goal was to build a website that not only provides a superior home search experience for consumers but also empowers real estate professionals by giving them full control over their own listings and leads. This approach aimed to attract a larger audience of both homebuyers and agents, making the site a central hub for transparent and efficient real estate transactions.

Pain Points & Challenges

Homes.com faced significant challenges in a market dominated by long-established competitors like Zillow and Realtor.com.
Overcoming Market Dominance: Breaking into a saturated market required a bold, differentiated strategy to convince both consumers and agents to switch.
Building Trust: Agents were skeptical of a new platform, especially one promising to change the fundamental lead generation model. The site needed to prove its value and commitment to the agent-first philosophy.
Data Integration: Aggregating and maintaining accurate listing data from over 650 Multiple Listing Services (MLSs) was a massive technical undertaking.
User Experience: The site needed to be more than just a listing database; it had to provide a rich, detailed, and intuitive experience that felt modern and trustworthy to the consumer.

My Solution

My solution was to create a modern and transparent real estate platform built on the "Your Listing, Your Lead" principle. I designed a user-centric experience that simplifies the home search process with detailed neighborhood guides, interactive maps, and high-quality visuals. For agents, I developed a suite of tools and a clean dashboard that makes it easy to manage listings and directly communicate with potential buyers. This dual focus on empowering both the consumer and the professional created a frictionless, trustworthy environment that set Homes.com apart from its competitors.
