Problem

Many people love to express their unique style through their clothing, especially street-style wear. However, finding street-style wear that truly represents their individuality can be challenging. A website that offers customizable street-style wear can solve this problem by allowing customers to create unique clothing pieces that reflect their personal style.
Therefore the problem statement is: How can a responsive online platform be created to allow users to discover, personalise and order high quality apparel whilst maintaining a positive user experience throughout the process?
Solution: To create a website that allows customers to customize their street-style wear, creating unique pieces that reflect their personal style. The website will offer a user-friendly interface that makes it easy for customers to choose the product, customize it, and checkout securely. The website will also provide customers with a range of design options, such as color, material, and design elements, to ensure that each piece is unique. Additionally, the website will prioritize sustainability and ethical fashion practices by using eco-friendly materials and partnering with small businesses. Finally, user testing will be conducted to ensure that the website meets the needs of the target audience and provide a smooth and enjoyable user experience

My Design Process

Interviews

I interviewed 5 people who frequently purchased streetwear clothing and users of existing online platforms for streetstyle apparel and customisable clothing, and i made the following observations;
Limited options: little options for consumers wishing to purchase clothing which is personalised and customised with their own branding.
Default Templates: Some brands tend to allow little or no personalisation of the branding
High Prices: Most brands only sell substandard or luxury brands, there are no in betweens. This might be a problem because many people might not be able to affordard the luxury brands that may want something above the very low standard.

Personas

We wanted to form a deeper understanding of our users from street style lovers so we drew up personas from 3 streetstyle lovers.
Jamie, a 20-year-old college student who is passionate about streetwear fashion. She is always looking for the latest trends and loves to stand out from the crowd with unique clothing pieces.
Mark, a 35-year-old software engineer who enjoys wearing street-style clothing but has a hard time finding pieces that fit him well due to his tall and muscular build.
Lily, a 28-year-old fashion blogger who values sustainability and ethical fashion practices. She prefers to purchase clothing that is made from eco-friendly materials and supports small businesses.

Empathy Mapping

I came up with an Empathy Map to better understand about the user’s behavior, thoughts and feeling. This helped me to examine problem from user’s perspective.

User Journey

With the business goal in mind, we make sure that our users reach the checkout screen without any hiccups. So, using same clients, we draw up their user journey to help us understand the step taken to achieve their goal. For the purpose of this case study, we will be using Jamie's journey.
- Jamie visits the website and selects the category of clothing she wants to customize, such as a t-shirt or hoodie.
- She chooses the color, material, and design elements to create a unique piece that reflects her personal style.
- Jamie previews the design and checks out securely using her preferred payment method.
- The customized piece is created and shipped to Jamie's address within the specified timeframe.

Sketches

After establishing the information architecture, I started the low fidelity design stage with Freehand initial sketches. I sketched out 3 of the key screens within the website.

Wireframes

After ideating solutions through sketching, I built further from the sketches through creating digital wireframes on Figma

Usability Testing

Before proceeding with the UI design, user testing was conducted to ensure that the website meets the needs of the target audience. Participants were asked to complete a series of tasks related to customizing and purchasing a product, and their feedback were used to make improvements to the website. The following feedbacks were provided and used to iterate the new UI
Font style and color: had difficulty to determine button for respective font style.
Bulk orders: Users found it placing orders for bulk purchase.
Explore option: Users would like the opportunity to explore all available designs.

UI Design

The UI design has a modern and edgy feel that reflects the street-style fashion industry. We used bold colors, geometric shapes, and playful typography to appeal to the target audience.

Next steps

01: Conduct Further user testing to ensure that the website meets the needs of the target audience and provide a smooth and enjoyable user experience.
02: The next step is to develop the front-end of the website, which involves converting the UI design into a functional website using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. This includes creating web pages, building navigation menus, adding animations, and implementing interactive features.
03: After launching the website, it's essential to continue maintaining and optimizing it regularly to ensure that it remains up-to-date, secure, and optimized for performance. This includes updating content, monitoring website analytics, and making necessary updates and improvements to the website's design and functionality based on user feedback and business objectives.

Learnings

User-centered design: Developing a website that meets the needs of the target audience is crucial to creating a successful website. By conducting user research, designing user-friendly interfaces, and testing the website with real users, we can ensure that the website meets the needs of the target audience and provides a positive user experience.
