The scheme is split along the North-South axis into three volumes allowing three tiers of interaction, access, and flow; the starting point being the entrance foyer. Its simple tree-like truss system carrying the aluminium roof, mimics the branching out of a big tree, a representation of a beloved communal meeting point. The asymmetrical roof extending beyond the building envelope frames the foyer not only as a reception point or waiting area, but also as an open area for public use on matters related to pregnancy, childbirth, and motherhood. In the central courtyard, the shifted masses contribute to an open and airy ambience in the corridor, offering a comfortable waiting area for family and friends of parturient mothers. Adorned with lush plants in the Southend, we create an intimate relaxation and bonding space for newly postpartum mothers.
