Mobile app promoting their sustainable use and encouraging the responsible utilization of resources.
About Project
E-Cooking is a mobile application designed to accelerate the adoption of electric cooking solutions by educating users, simplifying appliance usage and enabling informed product decisions.
Developed in alignment with sustainability initiatives led by SNV, the platform focuses on transitioning households from traditional fuel-based cooking to efficient, clean electric alternatives.
The product combines interactive tutorials, product comparisons and guided onboarding to empower users with the confidence to adopt electric utensils in their daily lives.
The Challenge
The core challenge was not just usability but behavioral transformation. Key barriers identified:
Low awareness of electric cooking benefits and usability
Perceived complexity of appliances like induction stoves and electric pressure cookers
Trust gap in performance, cost-efficiency, and reliability
Lack of localized guidance tailored to real household cooking habits
Difficulty comparing products and selecting the right appliance
From a system perspective, the challenge was to design an experience that educates, builds trust and drives adoption, while remaining scalable for different regions and appliance categories.
Process
01
Stakeholder & Domain Understanding
Collaboration with SNV and energy sector insights. Understanding sustainability goals and adoption metrics.
02
User Research & Behavior Mapping
Identified barriers in switching from traditional to electric cooking
Mapped user awareness → consideration → adoption journey
03
Information Architecture
Structured content into Learn, Compare, and Explore modules
Designed for progressive disclosure of information
Prepared for multi-region and multi-appliance expansion
The Solution
The solution is a structured, education-first platform designed to guide users from awareness to adoption:
Step-by-step interactive tutorials demonstrate how to use electric utensils (induction cooktops, rice cookers, electric kettles), reducing fear and confusion.
Side-by-side comparisons highlight key factors such as energy consumption, cost, efficiency, and suitability supporting confident decision-making.
Localized, Contextual Content
Clear visuals, simplified instructions, and structured information architecture help users understand and rely on electric cooking solutions.
Built to accommodate future expansion into more appliances, regions, and smart integrations (e.g., usage tracking, energy insights).
Results
✓ Reduced hesitation in adopting electric utensils through guided learning.
✓ Improved decision-making via transparent product comparisons.
✓ Increased user understanding of electric cooking appliances and their benefits.
