The project is a voluntary brief to work with the charity Settle Stories, providing illustrations for their online library and Yorkshire festival.

Settle stories provide the lines and descriptions of the stories. The illustrations will be turned into storytelling videos. The video will add different scenes of illustrations, using them to support the visuals of the storytelling.

I reached out to this illustration project because it combines the themes that I am passionate about: children’s education, storytelling, fairy tales, and illustration. 

As a volunteer, I worked on stray background research, brainstorming visual layout ideas, drafting, and illustrating the story. According to the description provided by The Settle Stories, I then drew 9 Senecio illustrations from the story. 

Because the story is set in a palace background, I used slightly more fancy lines with bright colours. Brighter colours were chosen as the main visual to show the palace’s colourful and vivid fairy tale background. 

At the same time, some golden highlights and decorative lines from the Rococo period are added, hoping to inject rich visual effects into the story with a palace background and increase the feeling of a fantasy fairy tale.
