Artisanal Brand Development

Burcu Binguler

Firdevs is an acclaimed art consultant based in Istanbul. Together, we collaborated to bring her artisanal porcelain brand to life, covering all aspects of her brand from visual identity and narrative development to social and packaging design of her first collection.

We had clear goals and limitations to start with:
In line with her emotive work style, Firdevs wanted to build a soulful brand inspired by Turkish painting and literature, an extension of her focus as an Art Consultant
It was important that the brand resonated with her A+ client base through its look and feel
The brand needed to reflect Firdevs’s refined and mature artistic taste, but also needed to stand on its own as a separate entity
She wanted to have a single point of contact for end-to-end services, covering everything needed to get her brand off the ground:
Core brand identity
Brand collateral design
Editorial design
Print design
Packaging design
So together, we set out to build this soulful brand with intention.

Discovery & direction:

Firdevs already had a niche audience base, and she shared many insights into how her clients feel, make decisions, and purchase.
I started by mapping her unique inspirations and benchmarks, as well as the inner workings of her business, from production to marketing.
To begin our story, I tried to imagine the spaces and experiences where Firdevs porcelain might live. These cups were meant to be used in any way the user intended, to drink anything from tea to even whiskey, to carry a flower or a handwritten note.
But before everything else, they were designed to complement genuine human experiences. Dining with close friends around a BBDW studio table, or late-night gossip over Turkish coffee on a cozy Howard-style couch.
This intention had to be present in every corner of the brand. It was the “why” behind all of our efforts.

Visual language

Matching the subtle but intentional forms of porcelain cups, we wanted to give the brand a skin that feels natural**,** something that can be felt even from across the room or screen, without needing to shout.
We anchored our direction around simplicity, sophistication, and radiance.
After countless explorations for the logomark and brand icon, the logo came out of once we reversed our logic to solely focus on the icon’s form first. We needed a gentle beacon to anchor our personality, like an intentional but precise gesture, reflecting the subtleties of the product designs.
Alongside the logo, the colors brought the body and soul of the Firdevs brand together. When we landed on our colors, it felt that something was really being born -as if a tiny leaf of grass had just emerged from the earth with the first rays of sunlight in the morning.
Rather than relying on illustrations or graphic decorations, we wanted to keep our direction minimal with a clear focus on the form of the porcelain cups and the stories behind each product design.

The clearest example of this focus on form is the packaging. I built a smart structure that held the porcelain pieces securely and left a sensory impression through high-quality material and texture.
The packaging could also be used interchangeably for different products without needing too much customization. This decision reduced a substantial time, effort, and anxiety around print production at the end of the project.
Although Firdevs launched quietly due to operational frictions at the time, feedback from her audience was more than promising.
The brand spoke directly to the customers and felt right: honest and confident in its own skin, without needing to speak loudly.
