Rive Animations for our Portfolio Website

Marvin Te

The video above is a dynamic text animation done in Rive. This has been implemented on our portfolio website: https://plainlysimple.studio
The Rive file is just about 100 kb. I have also exported the animation as H.264 MP4 just to test, and it's about 2 mb. The difference in file size is substantial. The Rive file also has another advantage: it doesn't pixelate even if you scale it up. The MP4 would pixelate if the internet is slow.
The dynamic text animation isn't the only Rive animation we've added; we also used Rive on the little things. It's always the little things that add up, right? We have also used Rive for the menu button.
We also added a little touch of animation so that when you hover over a portfolio entry, an eye appears. Get it? An eye? Eye—meaning "see"? See the project? Get it? No? Okay.
The eye has a playful, snappy idle animation, and when you click, the eye becomes happy. Knowledge of drawing and animation comes into play here. How do you show only one eye being happy? You can achieve that through the shape of the eye.
Do you need rive animations for your website? Let's work together!
