Hot Bombs is a modern, minimalist take on the classic game Minesweeper — designed for quick play sessions and visual impact. Commissioned by mintablo.de, our goal was to reimagine a familiar mechanic through a bold, brand-aligned interface that explodes with personality.
Objective
Bring new life to a nostalgic game by redesigning its visuals, interactions, and experience to align with Mintablo’s digital-first, creative tone. We aimed for:
A satisfying user experience in under 30 seconds
Scalable UI across devices
Bold but minimal visual identity
Design Direction
The visuals were driven by three principles:
Tension & Feedback: Every tap might be a bomb — so we made it feel like it. Smooth transitions, microinteractions, and subtle vibrations keep users engaged and alert.
Heat & Energy: Using a warm color palette and glowing gradients, we wanted to evoke the feeling of rising tension and heat.
Clarity & Calm: Despite the drama, the interface is clean and unobtrusive. Rounded tiles, spacious layouts, and calming type keep things accessible.
Challenges
Reinventing a classic comes with risk. Minesweeper is known for its logic-based difficulty, but we didn’t want it to feel slow or retro. Our solution:
Simplify the rules to one-tap gameplay
Keep the tension through sound and visual feedback
Reward quick reflexes and intuition, not just strategy
