Overview

This is a personal 3D animation project inspired by Teenage Engineering, a brand known for its unique blend of minimalism, creativity, and playful design. The animation focuses on the OP-1, one of their most iconic products. It’s a portable synthesizer, sampler, and sequencer celebrated for its experimental spirit and bold visual identity.

Goal

I set out to create a cinematic 3D product animation that reflects Teenage Engineering’s personality: modern, minimal, and innovative. The goal was to design a short looping sequence that could serve as a hero visual for campaigns, website headers, or brand films. I aimed to capture the brand’s design language through cinematic lighting, precise modeling, and clean composition, while adding a touch of atmospheric storytelling.

Challenges

The main challenge was maintaining the right balance between lighting and materials. Too much contrast made it harsh, while too soft and it lost its edge. Another key point was finding the right rhythm between animation and sound so it felt alive while staying true to the minimalist tone.

Solutions / Outcome

Modeling, texturing, animation, and particle simulation were done in Blender. Final compositing, color work, and sound design were completed in DaVinci Resolve.
This project helped me refine my lookdev and cinematic lighting workflow, and strengthened how I use motion and sound together to tell a story through design.
