Royal Road - UI/UX Revamp

Royal Road® is the home of web novels and fan fiction. In this amazing community, you can find various talented individuals who write as a hobby or even professionally, artists who create art for them, and many, many readers who provide valuable feedback and encouragement.

Problem & Solution 🤝

Royal Road has been up and running since 2013 and has a wide fan following. However, the design was outdated and needed a fresh and modern revamp along with some new and exciting features.

Goals/Requirements: At the very top level, these were some of the goals and requirements: • Modern UI • Reader-Oriented UX • Light & Dark Theme Support • Mobile & Web Support

Process 🛣

I started off by picking up the key elements from the old design. This is what the old design looked like

Next, I did some UX research on avid readers who like to read online. Through that, I gathered enough insights to move forward with this project. Since I already had a structure, and the project needed revamping, I jumped straight to designing.

I came up with some initial user interface themes and after having finalized the theme, I moved on to design the user interface in Adobe XD. After a lot of iterations and testing, the results came out marvelously.
