This is a project I’m very proud of although the premise was pretty simple, the company I work at (Rocket.Chat) was organizing a company retreat to Salvador da Bahia in Brazil to both celebrate their Brazilian roots and give an opportunity to their employees to get to know one another since this has always been a 100% remote work company. For this, they wanted me to make some fun slides they could use for the presentations that would occur in the event.

Digital & Identity Design

Bahia is a beautiful and vibrant city, and as such, I wanted to create an aesthetic that conveyed these feelings to the person reading our travel guide. The usage of circles representing the sun and moon (as it’s an all-day guide), lets me add small splashes of color to what would otherwise be a pretty bland text slide.
The rainbow motif pairs really well with Brazilian culture and as such, I decided to include it as a gradient adornment.
It’s not one of my biggest projects, but I still wanted to see it included it as visibility to projects that are not personal passion projects, but actual projects that I work on a day-to-day basis. This is also one of the instances where I was given quite a bit of creative freedom, and therefore it felt adequate to show it here.

Colors

I chose a vintage palette consisting of yellowish white for the backgrounds, paired with black typography, and muted orange as well as blue for highlights and adornments.
This palette came about as Bahia is known for its blue skies and year-round warm climate, so it seemed natural to use these two colors as accent colors. I also chose to use not pure white but instead a more sepia-toned version of white, along with pure black as those tones are more comfortable for me to work with and allow more space for different typography options.

Font usage

For this project, I chose the Mango font for titles and other highlights as it’s one of my go-to fonts when trying to have something with lots of character, but still keeping things tidy and purposeful. For text, I went with Roboto Mono since its monotype structure pairs beautifully with the serif-adorned Mango font, and it’s also one of the fonts included in Rocket.Chat’s branding.
