Project Overview

111 Arts Gallery and Tattoo Studio is a small business located in Muncie, Indiana that prides itself on being fun, original, and damn good at tattooing. They originally lacked a logo identity or any kind of branding so I was able to come up with a concept from scratch.

When figuring out where I wanted to go with this design, I decided to take inspiration from the various Chinese dragons and motifs that were dotted around the interior of the shop. From this, I came up with a concept based on Chinese artwork seals - which are stamps that either the artist or owner of a painting placed upon it. I designed the simplified tattoo gun logomark and used it as the artwork seal. I then created a custom typeface out of different parts of the logomark. This typeface was used both in the identity system but also in the business cards used for each tattoo artist that worked within 111 Arts Gallery.
