Queue: A Playlist Collaboration Project

Overview
For this project, I created a website for a project known as Queue. Queue is a collaborative playlist experience that I run on my social media where my friends, family, or strangers have the ability to submit songs. People usually submit songs based on a theme. After I curate everyone's music, I make it available on streaming platforms such as Apple Music and Spotify. I wanted to create an archival-like website that exhibits the tone of the playlists that have been created so far and to give more background of what Queue is and what it serves to do.
Problem & Solution
The problem I was trying to solve was users not having access to this project by any other means. If they cannot access it through social media, then it is limited to word of mouth. I wanted to provide a visual of what Queue Collaborative Playlists can look like, how they can be interacted with, and so on and so forth.
Goals/Requirements: • The first goal was to transfer the playlists to the website and create links to be able to stream them. • A space where users can submit music. • An understanding on what Queue is and what it does, by creating a space for description and questions.
Process
Sketches before the final product included branding, deciding what a potential logo could look like, ideating what the page layouts would be, and what the pages would include.
Results
I was able to successfully build a website that reflected the project. I built an index for people to navigate through, different pages that display the tracklist and links to the playlists, a homepage, and a submission page.
Takeaways
One of the most important lessons I learned from this project was responsive web design and how to create continuity from the web version to the mobile version. I learned about gradual degradation versus progressive enhancement and how they both answer a user need's differently. Moving forward, I will be sure to conduct larger usability studies, as for this website I performed unmoderated studies that allowed me to receive feedback and constructive criticism. I would love to continue building on this website to use this in the long run.
