A patent brokerage needed a steady flow of patent holders to contact, without a person searching records and writing emails all day. I built an n8n pipeline that finds the right people, enriches their contact details and sends personalised outreach, plus a webhook that delivers qualified leads to the client's own system.
The challenge
Finding inventors and their attorneys meant searching patent records by hand, copying names into sheets and guessing email addresses. The same people kept appearing more than once, and outreach was slow and generic.
What I built
USPTO search. The workflow queries the USPTO API for active utility patents that match the client's criteria
People lookup. It identifies the inventor and the attorney linked to each patent
Enrichment. Apollo finds verified contact details, with an attorney email fallback when the inventor has none
Deduplication. Repeat records are removed so each person is contacted once
AI outreach. An AI step drafts a personalised email for each contact
Lead delivery webhook. A second workflow receives requests by webhook, pulls matching leads in pages and responds with the results, or a clear no-leads response
Tech stack
n8n, USPTO API, Apollo, OpenAI, Google Sheets and webhooks.
Outcome
The client gets a repeatable outreach engine. New patent holders are found, cleaned and contacted automatically, and qualified leads can be pulled into other tools on demand through the webhook.
