Visualizing Serenity: A Critique of Beauty Standards

The Collaborative Brief:

Another project I made for The.Women.Story, my role was to translate a powerful narrative about body shaming and societal pressure into a "scroll-stopping" visual experience. I was responsible for the Visual Direction and Graphic Composition.

My Design Strategy:

The Protective Hand: To mirror the writer’s theme of seeking refuge from societal judgment, I composed a "Hero Image" featuring a large-scale hand sheltering two women from the "rain" of criticism. Aesthetic Juxtaposition: While the caption discusses harsh, judgmental sentences like “act like a lady,” I intentionally chose a "Serene" and soft aesthetic. This contrast highlights the peace found in self-acceptance despite external noise. Visual Storytelling: I paced the layout so the women are shown with their eyes closed, visually representing the act of "tuning out" the standard beauty expectations mentioned in the text. Canva Composition: I used advanced layering and element sizing to create a sense of scale, making the "communal protection" feel grand and immovable.

Technical Skills Demonstrated

Creative Direction: Interpreting a written script into a visual language. Asset Management: Customizing and layering elements in Canva to create a unique, metaphorical scene. Brand Alignment: Maintaining the soft, advocacy-focused visual identity of The.Women.Story.
