Fauna is a wellness app for The Resting Garden, built to support women through pregnancy, postpartum and everyday mental wellbeing. Most wellness apps treat every user the same. Fauna starts with a short onboarding quiz and builds a practice around each person’s stage, goals, physical setting and how they’re feeling that day.

I designed and developed the full product: the mobile app for iOS and Android, the backend and personalisation engine, payments, live classes and a separate admin panel for the client to run the business.

The client needed a single app that could:

Personalise content for different users, from someone trying to conceive to someone six weeks postpartum

Deliver video, audio and article sessions reliably

Handle subscriptions, class credit packages and live streamed classes

Give a non-technical owner full control over users, classes and payments

Personalisation engine An onboarding quiz feeds a profile that sets content weights across six pillars. A daily mood check-in reshapes the session queue each day, and a scheduled adaptive engine adjusts recommendations as habits change. Users who signal they’re struggling are routed to gentler, grounding content and offered support resources.

Session player Custom video (HLS via Cloudflare Stream), audio and article players with resume points, progress tracking and completion detection that saves progress without excessive database writes.

Gamification XP, streaks and badges feed a visual garden that grows through five stages. Milestones generate a branded, shareable badge card.

Live classes and payments Bookable live classes with credit packages, automatic expiry, no-show tracking and check-in. Stripe handles subscriptions with a free trial and one-off package purchases, with webhooks keeping access in sync. Apple Pay and Google Pay are supported.

Community Discussion boards with posting, replies, reporting and user blocking, plus moderation tools for the admin team.

Admin panel A separate web app for managing users, classes, attendance, packages and credits, including credit reimbursement, expiry extensions and Stripe refunds, all with an audit log.
