Overview

The church app is a mobile app designed to help improve engagement between the church and her members by providing shareable digital content on the go and keeping everyone up to date on activities within the church. The app provides its users with the ability to watch past sermons on-demand, as well as live worship experience broadcasts. Recently many organizations are investing ample time and resources into their digital presence. Their readiness has been evident and crucial during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Problem Statement

In the midst of so many activities in our daily lives, we can easily forget those special events and activities at Sunday services. Many people barely recall a sermon or announcement hours after church. The world is increasingly becoming smaller and digital. How can we provide church members a platform that will keep them engaged with teachings of the church and information on the go beyond the Sunday service?

User Research

My research began with conducting a series of 1:1 interviews with five people aged 23–33 years, to help me gain a deeper understanding of their weekly church experience, what their pain points might be and how their experience could be improved.
Interview Questions
How is your typical Sunday service experience like?
How do you keep track of church events?
How did you engage with the church during the pandemic lockdown?
Are there changes with your church experience post pandemic?
Does your church have an online presence? If yes, how is your experience with it?
How do your church communities carry out their activities?
Interview Findings
After the user research, I was able to gain some valuable insights that guided the next steps. Pertinent among my findings was the yearning for smart way of engaging with church activities. Many people are beginning to accept a hybrid approach as they believe that the congregation can be brought online.

User Flow

Having a clearer idea of what users needed such as information on where to go, what to do, and how they can get there, I began creating the user flow through the app, mapping out the paths a user would take. My next challenge was to examine and simplify the number of steps needed for each user to complete their key tasks within the product.

Wireframe

Wireframes allows me to arrange the interface elements while I focused on the functionality rather than what it looks like. Moreover, the simplicity it allows me to quickly test ideas without diving into the details.

Prototype Design

Shortly after conducting the usability tests, I applied minor changes to my final design. Below are some of the key user interfaces that I came up with.
Get to know the app
Users are required to register for the purpose of providing a personal experience as well as to be able to use the data for cross device access.
On demand podcasts, music and blog contents
The application gives you the best presentation of videos on a mobile app. Ability to play full length video optimized for mobile devices and also publish articles covering different topics and categories that’ll makes it easy to keep your community connected.
Let everyone know what events are happening
The app ensures everyone’s up-to-date with all upcoming events. This feature lists all current and upcoming events with a detailed description, map, ability to share events, contact person information, ability to register for the event and more. Users can also share an event(publicize) with their friends on twitter, Facebook, and via Email.
Making giving easy
In-app giving service which enables users donate to the church through an online payment gateway. Users can securely save their credit card information, and donate to the church with few easy steps.
Go Live
The project was quite an exciting one, largely because of buy-in from church leaders and it’s direct usefulness. With plenty of improvements yet to be made the Church app concept positioned to be a great tool for churches.
