Flux Academy is an online educational platform focused on teaching web design and branding skills. Founded by Ran Segall, a designer and YouTuber, it aims to equip students with the necessary tools to become successful web designers and freelancers.

They were looking for a designer to create stunning visuals across multiple projects, including their website, marketing campaigns, and course materials.

I developed visually engaging graphics for the Flux Academy website, ensuring consistency with their brand. I also designed compelling marketing materials to help promote their courses and enhanced the visual aspects of their course materials to improve the overall learning experience.

Flux Academy’s latest course, taught by Matt Jumper, guides students in advancing their web design skills. Inspired by the three course projects, I created all the visuals for the landing page, including the hero section and additional assets to highlight the key lessons from each project. I also ensured the design maintained a consistent visual style with other courses, for a cohesive user experience.

The first section of the page features the key course visual, which must both relate to the projects taught in the course and seamlessly integrate with the existing Flux brand.

I began by positioning the teacher at the center and filling the background with elements from various course projects and relevant property panels from Figma’s interface. We chose Sketch C because it better illustrated the progression from a blank canvas to a finished exciting design.

The narrative of sketch C was more compelling, but in the first draft, the finished website design section felt empty and lacked excitement. I improved it by adding the central figure of the project and incorporating additional course projects in the background.

I designed all the feature card images that accompany each project.

The main design challenge for the Mentoring page was the lack of visual material to draw from. Unlike the course landing pages, where the designs of course projects shape the visual elements, I had to create everything from scratch. To overcome this, I focused on visually representing the mentoring relationship, emphasizing the connection between mentors and students.

My vision for the hero section was to depict a student being mentored, showcasing only the screen and the back of their head. I utilized an AI image generator tool to bring this concept to life, and below, you can see how I iterated on the prompt based on the results I received.

After finding the right student image, I built the rest of the scene by layoring a desktop screen and some feedback bubbles over the starry background used on all course pages. An eerie gradient enhances the scene, drawing attention to the student being mentored.

I work with Flux Academy in a freelance capacity. I’m responsible for all brand and marketing collateral.
