I edited around 4 minute documentary for the Mastercard Foundation that follows young alumni across Ghana and Nigeria, from a market in Kumasi to a start-up in Lagos, and shows what its education and work programs have made possible. The film moves between personal stories, an awards moment, and the Foundation's impact numbers, and keeps the people at the center.
The brief
Client: Mastercard Foundation. A documentary-style film celebrating its alumni and impact across Africa
The challenge
The film had a lot to hold: one deeply personal story, an awards moment, large global numbers, a five-year research study, and several alumni in different places. The risk was a film that felt like a list. The goal was one clear emotional thread, so viewers care about the people first and the numbers second.
My role
Story and structure: shaped interviews and field footage into one flow, opening with a personal story before any numbers
Pacing: alternated human stories with data moments, so the statistics land without feeling cold
Motion graphics and titles: animated text cards for key statements and location labels such as Kumasi Market and Lagos
Grading and sound: Did color grading so that it can resemble the feel of documentry and composes the music through suno.ai
Approach
The film opens with a person's voice, not a statistic.
A consistent orange-and-black style for titles ties many locations and speakers into one piece.
Location labels keep viewers oriented as the story moves between cities and villages.
The ending returns to community stories, so the film finishes on people.
