Objective Like any other product, Kayak required product descriptions but of a deeper nature that captured customers' imaginations, described real concerns, and invoked actions. Their existing copy was factual and flat and completely failed to create any illusion of a connection to a potential buyer.
Strategy
To transform the copy, I explored the kukaying ecosystem and the customers’ interests regarding their repetitive purchases.
Looked into the competitors to target the emotional and messaging gaps others missed.
Shifted tone from features to benefits to tell what customers feel when owning and using the kayak.
Crafted the copy in a story format, appealing to emotions, and using friendly language that strengthens the purchasing decision to make it not robotic or salesy.
Transformation
“Sit in a kayak with an adjustable storage compartment for a comfortable and easy paddle.”
“Enjoy every moment while kayaking with a backward adjustable ergonomic seat. Stay efficient with a sleek storage compartment that simplifies adventure-filled kayaking days.”
Results
An engaged readership effectively feels human and appealing.
Descriptions and copies feel aligned with Kayak’s brand.
“Making their products sellable again” is the phrase that perfectly summarizes the client's feedback.
